Picture of eclipse
This image was entered in the March/April 1998 Internet Ray-Tracing Competition for the theme of Night. This has been my most complex image to date, with several million triangles used to define the various shapes. Be sure to notice the link to "View previous rounds" on the IRTC page, or you may miss the hundreds of incredible submissions that reside there!

With this image, I was trying to show a fairly realistic eclipse over a forest. The lighting may be a bit off, and I see a few other flaws with the image, but I only had about two weeks to do it.

In case the eclipse itself does not seem that realistic, take a look at the Nasa gallery of solar eclipses. I realize that the water may seem a little too blue, or the trees may show their grid alignment in certain places, but as I said, this was a very short-term project.
